The Arizona Charter Schools Association released a statement today expressing support for the proposals outlined in Gov. Doug Ducey’s State of the State address.
“On behalf of the Arizona Charter Schools Association, I commend Governor Ducey for his continued commitment to Arizona schools and K-12 education.
“In his State of the State address, the Governor spelled out a solid plan that will significantly boost funding for K-12 education over the next decade. Additionally, Governor Ducey pledged to lower capital construction costs for the highest-achieving, fastest-growing public schools; provide financial incentives to schools producing the most students who complete college preparatory-level classes, and to schools in low-income areas with students beating the odds; and boost State support for career and technical education. Lastly – and this proposal is near and dear to those of us at the Association – the Governor called for a ‘fast pass’ to help foster children gain admittance to some of Arizona’s top-performing public schools.
“While we await further details of Governor Ducey’s plans, we are encouraged that K-12 education is clearly a priority for this administration. That’s great news for Arizona schools, students and families – including our state’s 556 public charter schools serving more than 170,000 students.” Eileen Sigmund, President, Arizona Charter Schools Association
