Arizona Public Charter Schools Celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week

Phoenix (May 6, 2019) – The Arizona Charter Schools Association is proud to join our schools and educators across the country in celebrating National Teacher Appreciation Week, honoring more than 11,300 charter school teachers who drive academic success in Arizona classrooms.

Passionately committed to their profession and their students, great teachers create safe, inspiring classrooms that equip each and every student with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive. Every day, they use the most effective instructional practices, ensuring that Arizona’s charter students receive the best possible education. Because of our teachers’ hard work and innovative classroom methods, public charter students scored better than the state average in nearly every grade level and subject area from 2015 to 2018 on the AzMERIT. Arizona charter students are also outperforming their district and private-school peers on the National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP), better known as the Nation’s Report Card. Nearly 70 percent of Arizona charter schools that received a letter grade received either an ‘A’ or B’ grade in 2017-18 as a result of our teachers’ efforts.

“Our teachers serve as the foundation for the exemplary academic performance of our students,” said Jake Logan, President and CEO of the Arizona Charter Schools Association. “We’re honored to celebrate all teachers in Arizona and across the country.”

About the Arizona Charter Schools Association
The Arizona Charter Schools Association is a nonprofit organization that advocates and strengthens the autonomy, equity, and quality of Arizona’s diverse public charter schools. As a national leader in the public charter school movement, Arizona’s 556 charter schools serve almost 200,000 students in the 2018-19 school year. Academically, Arizona charter schools continue to produce excellent results. For the last four years, public charter students outperformed the state average on the AzMERIT assessment. In fact, if Arizona’s public charter students were separated and measured as their own state, it would rank among a handful of the top-performing states in the entire country on the Nation’s Report Card.
