The Arizona Charter Schools Association has released the latest version of its Education Evaluator, which is a public school map that provides an easy, transparent way to research and compare schools across the state. Users can view school enrollment information, student achievement data and school specific information for all of Arizona’s public schools – district and charter.
The Education Evaluator includes the following data on each public school:
School Type: There are two types of public schools: charter and district. District schools are governed by a locally elected school board, while charter schools are governed by an independent board of directors. Charters are granted by state-approved charter school authorizers, such as the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools.
Number of Students: Enrollment information is based on the October 1, 2018 student count reported to the Arizona Department of Education.
Congressional and Legislative District: Congressional and Legislative Districts are based on 2019 boundary lines.
Grades Served: Grade levels served are based on 2019-20 school year data as reported to the Arizona Department of Education.
A-F Letter Grades: The Arizona Department of Education issues letter grades for all public schools, with certain exceptions. For instance, schools that strictly serve grades K-2 do not receive a letter grade, nor do very small schools. There are two types of letter grades: traditional and alternative. Alternative school grades are designated by an –ALT (i.e., A-ALT). Accountability results are based on the Arizona Department of Education’s Accountability System for the 2018-19 school year, the most recent year available. Schools opened after the 2018-19 school year are designated NYR due to the lack of available data.
Progress Meter: In addition to a letter grade, each school in the Education Evaluator has a profile that includes data on 3rd Grade Reading, 8th Grade Math, High School Graduation, and College-Going Rates.
