Arizona Charter Schools Association Applauds Governor Ducey’s Proposed FY21 Budget

Phoenix (Jan. 9, 2020) – Arizona Charter Schools Association President and CEO Jake Logan released the following statement in response to Governor Doug Ducey’s Executive Budget:

“Governor Ducey’s budget plan for FY2021 proposes thoughtful and worthy investments in K-12 public education that will make a difference for schoolchildren across Arizona. On behalf of the almost 560 public charter schools educating over 200,000 students statewide, the Arizona Charter Schools Association applauds the Governor for his continued efforts to close the achievement gap, reward excellence and improve academic performance across our state.

“Specifically, this Executive Budget includes more than $600 million in additional resources for K-12 schools – accounting for nearly two-thirds of all new spending. These dollars will help public charter and district schools pay for classroom supplies, computers and other necessary technology, as well as additional student-resource officers and counselors to help ensure Arizona schools are safe, welcoming places. An expansion of results-based funding will incentivize schools getting the best outcomes, while the innovative ‘Project Rocket’ provides a boost to struggling schools that need it most.

“Perhaps most critically, the Governor’s plan includes additional funding for Arizona’s most vital classroom asset: our teachers. This includes an additional pay increase that will assist schools in recruiting and retaining the best classroom educators.
“The Arizona Charter Schools Association strongly supports Governor Ducey’s Executive Budget, and we look forward to working with his administration and legislators so that our schools, students and teachers have the support they need and deserve.”
