When Alexis Limon was chosen to host North Pointe’s preptv morning show this year, she knew would gain a wealth of knowledge, experience and excitement. However, she had no idea that her stint as a reporter would take her across the country to interview people from various backgrounds. Limon joins the Association as a guest blogger to describe how the experience changed her life.

When I was selected to be the host of preptv’s “8:02 Live Show” for this school year, I knew it was going to be exciting but I had no idea how much this experience would change my life.
preptv is North Pointe Prep’s communication platform and I host the live morning show that is broadcast throughout our campus each school day. The show is also livestreamed and posted on our website, preptv.org.
Our show starts off with a segment where we promote our campus events. It’s followed by another portion of the show where I interview guests. We also have several other special segments, including one that we call “In Your Face.”
These In Your Face segments have provided me the opportunity to meet and interact with people from around the country. We traveled to Chicago to cover the World Series, Hollywood on Election Day to discuss the Electoral College, Washington D.C. for the Inauguration, and in April we’ll be covering the National High School Robotics Championships in Iowa. We also did “In Your Face” segments at the Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton rallies. In fact, we were the only high school to receive press credentials for the Clinton rally. It was surreal to be in the press area standing right next to people I watch on TV every night.
I’m especially proud of election week shows back in November and our Inauguration week shows this past January.
For election week, we did two shows from the State Capitol with Arizona State Rep. Paul Boyer. We also aired our “In Your Face” segments from Hollywood and, in advance of Veterans Day, we went to Luke Air Force Base and did a show with some of the Airmen who fight to keep us safe.
For Inauguration week, we traveled to Washington D.C. Our shows featured interviews with Arizona’s U.S. Sen. Jeff Flake, U.S. Representatives Trent Franks, David Schweikert, and Tom O’Halleran, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, and students from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va., as well as an “In Your Face” segment from the Lincoln Memorial.
Working with preptv is a huge commitment. We’re constantly trying to go bigger and better with everything that comes up. I usually arrive at school an hour before classes start and often do not get home until late. I miss my classes when we do our shows off campus or because of trips, so I have to make sure I’m staying on top of my assignments in order to maintain my 4.0 GPA. Sometimes, I’m literally using every free moment to catch up. But I wouldn’t have wanted my senior year to be any other way.
This past year has been unbelievable. I’ve had the opportunity to be more open with people and to get out of my bubble, created memories that will last forever, been inspired by the hundreds of people I’ve interviewed, and gained a wealth of knowledge from covering the endless topics. I’m truly grateful. Thanks preptv!
